1 Day Kuala Lumpur Surrounding Birding Tour
There are many good birding sites around Kuala Lumpur city center, some are just 30 minutes drive from city and some are within 1 hour driving distance. Those birding sites whole difference species of birds. It can be range from the lowland rainforest, wetland, mangrove, secondary forest, rice field and montane rainforest. Description of itinerary
Kuala Selangor Nature park, Kuala Selangor (1.5hr drive from Kuala Lumpur)
- Depart Early Morning to Kuala Selangor Nature park, spend the morning on the Mangrove Forest and secondary forest trail.
- Lunch
- Start birding around Kuala Selangor, Paddy field and mudflat.
What bird that you can expect:
Many waterbirds if during Migratory season (September – April) , else, resident species like Lesser Adjutant Stork, Purple Heron,Grey Heron,Common Kingfisher, Collard Kingfisher, Stork-bill Kingfisher, Sunda Woodpecker, Common flameback, Greater Flameback, Lace woodpecker, Coppersmith Barbet, Lineated barbet, Pied Fantail, Crested serpent eagle, Brahminy kite, Mangrove Blue flycatcher, Mangrove Whistler, common hill myna, Cinnamon bittern, Yellow Vented Bulbul,Black Drongo, Pink-neck Green Pigeon, Blue throated Bee Eater, Brown throated Sunbird, Oriental Whiteeye, Abbott’s Babbler, Painted Stork, white bellied sea-eagle, oriental pied hornbill, etc.

Bukit Tinggi and Genting Valley Submontane forest
- 1hrs drive to east up on the Sub-montane forest for local specialty. Endemic Mountain Peacock Pheasant will be high in the target for this day tour.
- Afternoon-heading to Genting Valley for more submontane and lowlndforest birds. Expect to record minimum of 50 species and can be up to 99 species !

Krau Lowland Forest and Surrounding
- Drive 2 hours from Kuala Lumpur to the east at small town called Lanchang, then driver along the fruit farm land and local villages to the Krau Forest. mixture of farmland and secondary forest, lots of good species around this area. Easily record 50 species include Gold Whiskered Barbet, Black tight Falconet, Buff-rumped Woodpecker and possible for Malaysian Railbabbler

Pulau Indah Mangrove forest (and wetland) and Secondary Forest
- 1:15 hr drive west to the coastal island at the strait of Malacca, open field with mangrove forest, opportunity to find Mangrove Pittas.

National Botanaical Garden or formerly know asTaman Pertanian (Agricultural Park), Shah Alam, Selangor (40minutes from Kuala Lumour)
About 40 km from Kuala Lumpur, located in outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, it’s nextt to Shah Alam city center. Well-maintained park which holds lowland rainforest species. Particularly canopy or upper canopy birds are well-observed. Beautiful black and yellow broadbill, banded broadbill and black and red broadbill can be see here. Banded woodpecker also commonly found here.

Templer's Park and Forest Reseach Institute Malaysia(1hr from Malaysia)
Located in northeast of Kuala Lumpur, about 1 hour drive from Kuala Lumpur central. There are many waterfalls which attract visitors in the weekend. Trails in the forest are not maintained properly but may be good for looking for lower land forest birds. Templer’s Park is still a good birding spot for birdwatchers while the access is relatively easy and less walk is required.
